Your Signature Flavor: A Taste Profile for Every Zodiac Sign (and How to Build It at Home)

We do a cocktail for each zodiac sign once a month but this week I want to give you something more useful. Not a drink for your sign, but your signature flavor, and how to build an entire world of drinks around it at home, with our 6-Year Cask Strength Bourbon as your anchor.

Because once you understand flavor, you stop needing recipes and that’s where the real mixology happens.

First, why bourbon is the perfect anchor

Our 6-Year isn’t a blank base it’s a backbone with a full, layered profile. On the nose: apricot, anise, sugar cane, and chamomile. On the palate: smooth and mellow, with cherry, apricot, almond, and warm croissant. Well balanced, with a velvet mouthfeel and an approachable, slow-building burn that fades to juicy fruit. Those notes are bridges. The stone fruit (apricot, cherry) reaches toward jammy, fruit-forward flavors; the almond and croissant reach toward rich, nutty, dessert-like ones; the anise reaches toward herbal, spiced, and bitter notes; the chamomile reaches toward floral and tea-like ones; and the sugar cane sweetness ties it all together. Because it’s additive-free and cask strength, the flavor is concentrated and honest — it holds its own next to a bold ingredient instead of vanishing — yet that velvet, juicy-fruit finish keeps it friendly for a newer palate too. That’s exactly what you want in a base spirit: bold but approachable, with an opinion.

Two quick principles that unlock everything below. Complementary pairing puts like with like — the bourbon’s almond-and-croissant with salted butterscotch, cozy and round. Contrasting pairing sets opposites against each other — its juicy stone fruit against bright citrus, lively and surprising. Neither is “correct.” Knowing which mood you’re after is the whole skill.

Your signature flavor, by sign

Think of these as your starting note: the flavor to reach for first, and the bridge in the bourbon it shakes hands with.

• Aries — Blood orange & chili. Bright heat to match the spark. Bridges the bourbon’s anise and spice.

• Taurus — Salted honey & toasted almond. Luxurious and grounding. Complements the almond and sugar cane.

• Gemini — Grapefruit & mint. Two notes in conversation, like you. Contrasts the bourbon’s juicy fruit.

• Cancer — Fig & pistachio. Nostalgic and tender. Complements the almond and croissant.

• Leo — Toasted marshmallow & amaro. A little drama, a little bittersweet depth. Plays off the croissant and anise.

• Virgo — Green apple & chamomile. Clean, precise, quietly complex. Complements the chamomile on the nose.

• Libra — Rose & apricot. Elegant and balanced. Doubles down on the apricot and floral chamomile.

• Scorpio — Black cherry & mole (chocolate-chili) bitters. Intense, mysterious, unforgettable. Doubles down on the cherry, with anise-friendly heat.

• Sagittarius — Smoked maple & orange. Adventurous, warm, a little wild. Bridges the sugar cane sweetness with smoke.

• Capricorn — Espresso & demerara. Serious, refined, built to last. Complements the almond-croissant and sugar cane.

• Aquarius — Elderflower & yuzu. Unexpected and futuristic. A bright contrast that plays off the chamomile.

• Pisces — Lavender & hazelnuts. Dreamy and soft-focus. Complements the chamomile and almond.

The home-bartending formula (this is the real gift)

Here’s how to turn any signature flavor into a finished drink without a recipe. Memorize one ratio — the classic sour/old-fashioned family in disguise:

2 parts 6-Year Bourbon · ½ -¾ part sweet · ½ part sour or bitter · your signature flavor woven in

• The base: 2 oz of the 6-Year, always. This is your anchor.

• The sweet: ¾ oz of a syrup or liqueur — and this is where your signature flavor often lives (salted-honey syrup for Taurus, smoked-maple for Sagittarius, espresso-demerara for Capricorn).

• The balance: ½ oz lemon or lime for a bright, shaken drink; or 2–3 dashes of bitters for a spirit-forward, stirred one. Bright signs (air, fire) usually want citrus; deep signs (water, earth) usually want bitters.

• The accent: express a peel, float an aroma, or add a single dash of a bold bitter to punctuate the signature note.

Want a Scorpio drink? 2 oz 6-Year, ½ oz demerara, 3 dashes mole bitters, stirred over a big cube, black-cherry garnish. Want an Aquarius one? 2 oz 6-Year, ¾ oz elderflower liqueur, ½ oz yuzu or lemon, shaken, expressed lemon peel. Same formula, twelve personalities. That’s home bartending — and once it clicks, your whole bar opens up.
