New Dawn Bourbon and Crawfish
My dad always encouraged my sister and me to try everything once. Well to be frank, it was less encouragement and more an edict.
And when I was little, I hated it! I would sit at the kitchen table for hours trying to avoid the inevitable but eventually I would have to succumb to what was on my plate. As I grew older, however, trying everything once turned into more of a challenge - an opportunity even to expand my palate - and I eventually far surpassed my dad with respect to what I was willing to try.
This is all just an eloquent preface to detract from me trying a shot of New Dawn in a crawfish head. In this case, I succumbed to internet shenanigans and after watching a group of people on Instagram try hennessy in a crawfish head last year I made a note to try it with New Dawn at the height of crawfish season.
The result: I can NOT recommend. It’s fine, there are somethings New Dawn just doesn’t go with. Crawfish heads, racism, cheap mixers…
But in all seriousness, I can recommend New Dawn with crawfish TAILS. Now that is a pairing you shouldn’t miss out on if like me you look forward to crawfish season every year. Our smooth bourbon is a great accompaniment to these lobster look-alikes neat or on the rocks but I this year I fell in love with pairing my tails with the 12-mile Limit.
A potent blend of bourbon, rum, and cognac this prohibition tipple brings just enough fruity-sour notes to cut through the spiciest of boils to really let those sweet crawfish tails sing. My only word of warning with this pairing is to make sure you have plenty of crawfish!
