Cigar Pairing: Casa Carrillo Cigars The Pledge
Long overdue, one of the feature cigars at our Bourbon and Black event in May: the Casa Carrillo Pledge Prequel and since we had Casa Carrillo's regional manger Trey Andrews on hand, I'mma let him tell you a bit about this excellent pick.
Notes from Trey
This was the #1 cigar of the year in 2020 - 98 rated out of 100, the highest rated ever for number one cigar of the year. The wrapper on this is very unique, it’s actually a habano maduro grown in Connecticut. There are only three cigars on the market that use that tobacco. Most people think it’s a Connecticut broadleaf but it’s not - same characteristics but a little smoother and sweeter, a full flavored medium bodied cigar.
Dawn’s Tasting Notes
A medium body cigar for sure but very smooth with just a hint of spice, vanilla, cream, laced with coffee. The 10 also amplifies the cigars wonderful notes of hazelnuts and cocoa nib. This cigar was so consistent right through the second third only mellowing slightly towards the end. It amplified the 10-year Wheated in all the best ways, brining out notes of brown sugar and baked goods.
Together it felt like I was drinking an elevated latte with freshly roasted coffee beans and hazelnuts and of course the finest whiskey. 10/10 Would highly recommend picking up this smoke its definitely become a regular in my rotation.
