Rooted In the Ancestral Realm
This summer, connection is the main ingredient. This is the last in our series bringing you the warmth of Southern cookouts and family reunions and a reminder of why now more than ever is the time to get the full story. We hope you have enjoyed this weekly reminder to use a premium pour of New Dawn as a catalyst for those essential, history-making conversations. Prepare to ask the question that matters: "Tell me more."
Family is a Living System
"Aunt Clara, I just don't know," Nia admitted, swirling the red liquid in her glass, a hibiscus cocktail made with smooth New Dawn 6-year bourbon. The humid August air felt heavy with the scent of jasmine and spent charcoal. The cookout noise was a distant hum now, just the two of them nestled under the oak tree.
Aunt Clara, her hands steady despite her age, arranged three tarot cards on the small wrought-iron table. The light from a nearby lantern cast long shadows over the faces of the cards. "You keep asking the intellect to solve a matter of the spirit, child. The ancestors are trying to get your attention."
Nia leaned forward, eyeing the cards. "I'm looking at leaving a safe career for something... completely unknown. It feels irresponsible."
Aunt Clara smiled, a soft, knowing curve of her lips. She tapped the first card. "The Empress. You see her? She is creation, abundance, grounded in the earth. She reminds you of your grandmother, Hattie."
"Grandma Hattie?" Nia was surprised. "She was the most practical person I knew. Always budgets and quarterly reports."
"Practicality is a tool, not a value," Aunt Clara corrected gently, pouring a neat measure of the 6-Year for herself. "Hattie was an artist in her own right—she created wealth and security where there was none. And look at the second card: The Wheel of Fortune." She pointed to the turning wheel. "It’s about destiny, cycles, and trusting the moment. That’s why I mixed you a 40 Acres and a Mule cocktail tonight. You’re asking for a sign, and the sign is simple: The universe is turning in your favor, but you must be the one to push it forward."
And look at the third card: Strength. She is the gentle but uncompromising power within you, reminding you that conviction is built on patient endurance, not brute force.
"But what if I fail?" Nia whispered, taking a slow sip of the whiskey. The sweet, lingering finish of the bourbon calmed her.
Aunt Clara took a drink, letting the premium, aged spirit settle. "Failure is not the opposite of success, Nia. It's part of the cycle. When Hattie and Silas risked everything to buy that first plot of land, they risked everything. They didn't have a blueprint, they had conviction. Like this whiskey—it’s been patient for years, waiting for the perfect moment to be shared. That patience is your legacy. Your ancestors want you to know: you've done the work, you've earned the intuition. Now, act on it."
Nia looked at the cards, then at the amber whiskey reflecting the lantern light. "So, the guidance is... let go of the rope and jump?"
Aunt Clara nodded. "The Empress creates. The Wheel turns. And the ancestors provide the good whiskey for the courage to toast the jump.Six years of patience in charred oak. Someone decided to wait, long before they knew what they were waiting for. That's conviction." She raised her glass. "To your clarity, and to the courage to listen to the whisper that only you can hear."
Nia clinked her glass, the resonant sound sealing the promise. "To the ancestors."
The Strategy
Family history is a living system. This August, as the summer winds down, use the New Dawn to honor those roots. Sit in the quiet moments of the reunion, perhaps with a signature New Dawn cocktail, and ask your elders, "Tell me more about the signs that guided you".
