Pour and the. Pull: The Star and The Courage to Shine

The Tower falls so The Star can rise. That's the order of the deck, and it's rarely an accident. When the dust of everything you thought was solid finally settles, The Star arrives — quiet, luminous, certain. It is the card of hope after hardship, of faith renewed, of a light you follow home when the sky has gone dark.

I was letting continued distribution woes and people taking my money and playing in my face dim my light. I started thinking maybe I should switch tactics and take a path that wasn’t true to me.  But no. I’m gonna be smarter for sure, but I’m also going to continue to march to my own drum.

This card reveals a simple charge: share your gifts with the world. Don't hold back your unique talents or your true personality. Your authenticity is a source of inspiration for others. In traditional readings, The Star is the wish and the wisher both — renewal, healing, serenity, and the guiding light that lets others find their way by your example. It doesn't ask you to be loud. It asks you to be seen.

So we mix accordingly.

The Burning Star is a drink that refuses to hide it is a reminder to burn bright enough to burn the bridges that no longer serve you. New Dawn Bourbon sits at its center like a fixed point — cask strength, additive-free, nothing dressing it up or watering it down. Around that core we build heat and glow: Campari's bittersweetness, the slow burn of cinnamon-ginger syrup, three dashes of firewater tincture, and a bright cut of lime. It is bold without being loud. It burns, but it burns clean — the way authentic things do.

There's a reason this pull lands in August. It's National Black Business Month, and The Star's message resonates with me extra loud. This is a brand founded as a reclamation — of space in an industry African Americans helped build but were long denied the chance to own. I choose to let my gifts and my passion shine rather than shrink them: a palate honed across generations, turned toward a bottle that stands for something. Every Black-owned business that dares to be seen is a star someone else will steer by.
