New Dawn Cigar Review- The Goods

Our last smoke of the year is again from Definition Cigars this time their The Goods which gets its name from the cigar's distinct shape.

The 10-year Wheated Whiskey is the perfect pairing for Definition Cigars “The Goods”

This beauty starts out strong with flavors of rich almonds and cashews offering a beautiful buttery note with threads of peppercorn and light leather.

Paired with New Dawn’s 10-year Wheated Whiskey expect cloves, juicy orange, and cinnamon to rise to the front along with a more toasted nut flavor. Pairing with New Dawn’s 6-year bourbon offers up rosemary, leather, and tobacco giving a more herbaceous vibe than fruity.

I prefer this with the 10, but both are an excellent choice as this cigar is flavor forward like the whiskeys. And by flavor forward, I mean quite the journey. Maple notes slide in toward the end of the first third but more a smooth rich maple wood note than a syrup. I also detected a hint of rose along with that maple, delicately flowery but not overpowering. The second third offers more smokiness (but not ash) while still being buttery and nutty with more heat and spice.

This was a beautiful cigar to close out this year's cigar hunt! Looking forward to featuring several suggestions in the New Year like the Olivia Series V and Black Star Lines offerings. What sticks are you picking up to pair with New Dawn in the New Year?
