How to Toast a Milestone

This summer, connection is the main ingredient. Over the next two months, I’ll be bringing you the warmth of Southern cookouts and family reunions and a reminder of why now more than ever is the time to get the full story. I’ll blend the science of soulful craft with rich, robust stories of lineage, social justice, and tradition. Every week will offer a fresh story and a reminder to use a premium pour of New Dawn as a catalyst for those essential, history-making conversations. Prepare to ask the question that matters: "Tell me more."

The Night Shift to Top Honors

Jordan set the New Dawn 6-Year Cask Strength Bourbon on the counter — Gold Medal at SIP Awards, Platinum at L.A. Spirits. He figured if any occasion called for something that had earned its stripes, this was it. Jordan poured a smooth measure of New Dawn for the three of them, the amber liquid catching the low light of the kitchen. Keisha leaned back, the weight of years of sleepless nights finally lifting. "Top honors, Keisha," Jordan said, raising his glass. "Tell me more about the work it took to get here."

"It wasn't just the studying, Jordan," Keisha replied, taking a slow sip of ..the cask-strength bourbon, its warmth starting clean and expanding slowly — the kind of depth that doesn't announce itself, just settles in. "It was the four a.m. shifts as an aide, the moments I thought I’d never finish. "It started with the prerequisites—human anatomy where I had to memorize every single bone and muscle, then microbiology and chemistry. Then came the clinicals. That means I spent hundreds of hours in the actual hospital, learning how to stay calm when things get scary and how to advocate for patients who can't speak for themselves,” Keisha smiled and raised her glass, “But I DID IT!” she said with a little squeal, “I did this for me, but I also did it for him." She gestured toward her nephew, Miles, who was watching them with wide, proud eyes.

"Auntie Keisha," Miles said, his voice dropping as he looked into his glass. "I want to follow in your footsteps, but I'm scared. I don't know if I can handle seeing people suffer like that... or what happens when you can't save them. How do you keep going when you lose someone?"

Keisha set her bourbon down and met his eyes with a gentle, steady gaze. "That is the heaviest part of the job, Miles. For a long time, I thought success meant every patient walked out that door. But I learned that I’m not there to be the cure—I’m there to provide the care. I overcame that fear by focusing on being the person who makes their hardest day a little more bearable."

"You have to protect your own spirit too," she continued. "Self-care isn't just a luxury in this job; it's a requirement. You learn to leave the weight of the hospital at the door and find peace in small moments, like this toast right here. If you don't fill your own cup, you have nothing left to pour for others."

"Was it hard to pass the big test?" Miles pressed.

"The NCLEX? It was the hardest thing I've ever done," she admitted, looking at the golden liquid in her glass. "Months of practice questions and constant doubt. But every time I wanted to quit, I thought about the legacy I wanted to build."

She turned back to her nephew. "Miles, remember this taste," she said softly. "This is what it feels like when the long shot finally lands. This is what success tastes like."

The Strategy:

Summer is a season of milestones — graduations, promotions, or the simple win of bringing the whole family together. Use our award-winning 6-Year Cask Strength Bourbon to toast the moments that cost something to earn. When a loved one shares their achievement, don't just say "congratulations." Say: "Tell me more about the work it took to get here."

Gold at SIP Awards. Platinum at L.A. Spirits. New Dawn knows what it takes to earn validation in a crowded room. So does Keisha.
